Rotary Reads for Día (Diversity In Action)!

Rotary member Linda Wingert reads to Mrs. Turner's 2nd grade class.

In partnership with United Way, members of our local Rotary clubs read to several classes at Monarch Grove on April 29 and 30 in honor of "Día", a national library program that promotes "literacy for all children from all backgrounds. Día, also known as El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day) is a commitment to include and celebrate all cultures through literacy" (United Way website). Not only did our Rotary members read to our students, but the book they read was donated to the school or classroom library in their honor.

Our students were super excited to have guest readers and were even more thrilled to know the book that was read to them was going to be in our school library for everyone to enjoy. Thank you Rotary and United Way and our District Librarian Michelle Hopper for helping organize this fun and educational event!

Rotary member Linda Wingert read The Girl with a Mind for Math: The story of Raye Montague.
